Shakespearean sonnets have always been a source of interest for me. I love the way that they rhyme on different lines, and the figurative language that is featured in the poems. I was excited when I learned that we were assigned a sonnet to write, with a topic given for our sonnet to be written on. My topic was "Your favorite T.V. show or video game," which is a nice topic to get for most other people, but it was difficult for me, since I have a hard time writing genuine things that don't involve sarcasm. Luckily, I found a way to incorporate humor and sarcasm into my sonnet. My sonnet still wasn't very good, since poetry isn't really my thing, but it isn't the worst thing I've ever written (I hope).
One of the hardest things I had to do was figure out a way to make everything fit into the rhyme scheme, while still having only 10 syllables per line. This seems to be a common problem for people who write sonnets, and I'm glad that I managed to make everything rhyme. However, using the iambic meter was too much work, so I left it out. Even though my sonnet is missing this, i still think it turned out just fine. I am glad I got to experience the trials and tribulations of writing a sonnet.
